Philip Bell

Philip Bell is a well-known name on the creationist conference and speaker circuits and has been a full time professional creationist with Answers in Genesis UK. He appears to have left the organisation some time in the summer of 2006. He now runs the UK arm of Creation Ministries International.

Before joining Answers in Genesis UK he was a schoolteacher and before that he worked as a scientist in cancer research. He holds a first degree in zoology (unusual for a creationist) from Swansea University.

Bell is noted for his wacky opinions on UFOs and dinosaurs roaming the British countryside in Tudor times.

Apparently Bell believes that UFOs are manned by fallen angels who abduct members of the public. Bell also holds it that alien abductions existed long before the modern era. Abductees are told that they are 'special', and that they have missions to do. Some abductors claim to come from another dimension, and all of them support Darwin’s theory of evolution, he has claimed.

It doesn’t stop with UFOs.

Bell’s evidence for dinosaurs in Tudor times appears to be solely based on two crude images on the tomb of Bishop Bell (no relation) in Carlisle Cathedral.

The reader might be thinking that had dinosaurs roamed Britain until at least the 15th century, someone might have noticed and left us with some written records. After all, these were, apparently, large, hairless creatures that would have destroyed crops or attacked other animals.

Or that bones of these creatures had been found – at 500 years old they would not have fossilised.

But this brilliant world-class historian believes that a single brass on the tomb of Archbishop Bell who died in 1496 is definite evidence of dinosaurs being alive at the time. It is clearly a very simple stylisation of an animal, but there is absolutely nothing to suggest whether it was a reptile, a mammal or a dinosaur.

Still, belief in dragons, UFOs and dinosaurs roaming late mediaeval Britain are standard boilerplate beliefs of Answers in Genesis. Bell, after all, was Deputy Chief Executive of Answers in Genesis UK.
