Edgar Powell

Edgar Powell, B.Sc., M.Sc., PGCE, DipRSA, Comp.Science, is head of ICT/Computing at Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School. We have no evidence whatsoever to suggest that he has been promoting creationism in this school; nor was he one of the signatories to the notorious 2002 Estelle Morris letter. Powell's degrees are belived to be in geography and geology.

However, Powell came to our attention because he endorsed a book by John Blanchard who has been involved in Truth in Science.

The endorsement, which can be seen on the web site of Evangelical Press (which has close very connections to the fundamentalist movement) can be seen at http://www.evangelicalpress.org/esales/product_info.php?products_id=32.

To quote: ''In this exciting, compact and closely reasoned book, Dr Blanchard ably maintains a high view of science while demonstrating its inability to answer life’s ultimate questions or meet our deepest needs. With pithy quotations and in a readable style he shows how worldviews that dispense with God inevitably lead to chaos and despair. - Edgar Powell, B.Sc., M.Sc., PGCE, DipRSA, Comp.Science, Head of ICT/Computing, Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School.''

Note that Powell even goes so far as to call Blanchard "Dr Blanchard" - except that Blanchard's PhD is from a notorious creationist diploma mill, the Pacific International University.

Moreover, Powell's endorsement sits right alongside that of Stephen Layfield, the former head of science at Emmanuel College.

Powell himself is author of a creationist book - On Giants' Shoulders: Studies in Christian Apologetics. He is believed to have been involved in the 1970s in a now long defunct creation science organisation called the Newton Scientific Association. This organisation appears to have been associated with the fundamentalist Metropolitan Tabernacle in London.
