“There are a range of creationist views, not just one. Nor is there only one view at Emmanuel College. But all are united in saying "No!" to atheistic doctrinaire macro-evolutionism, which is the standard fare in many schools.” – David Holloway, letter in Church Times, 5/4/02

David Holloway is the vicar of a large Anglican church in Jesmond, an inner city, but reasonably prosperous, part of Newcastle upon Tyne. By all accounts the church is popular with high levels of attendance. Holloway has claimed that it attracts 800-1,000 worshipers on a Sunday. It also appears to be the most popular church in Newcastle for students at the nearby University of Newcastle.

Holloway is a graduate of University College, Oxford and Ridley Hall. He arrived at Jesmond in 1973.

Holloway is one of the highest profile Anglican clergymen in the UK. He is a highly conservative evangelical fundamentalist, a staunch critic of much of the CofE, a founder and trustee of the right wing Christian Institute and a senior member of Reform, a hardline evangelical pressure group. He dislikes liberals intensely. So much so, that, in reaction, his church has been picketed.

He has been closely associated with the establishment of the Vardy schools.

Fundamentalists frequently avoid answering questions. In this interview on Radio 4’s flagship Today programme Holloway refuses to answer a straight question and ends up being described as extremely dishonest: http://www.angelfire.com/nb/lt/docs/called17.htm
